Milwaukee County Parks Achieves Important Bird Area Status

After a rigorous review, the WI Bird Conservation Initiative (WBCI) designated the entire Milwaukee County Park System the state’s newest Important Bird Area (IBA). An IBA is an area in the state that is vital to bird conservation and provides essential habitat. Parks was recognized specifically for its value to migratory birds and the Natural Areas Program’s bird education & outreach efforts with the public.
