Frederick Law Olmsted is well known for his many park designs throughout the country. Less well known is his design, relatively early in his career (1868), for the Chicago suburb of Riverside. The History Committee is planning a trip to see this unique area.

Here’s the itinerary:

  • Leave at 8:30 a.m. from Lake Park Bistro/Pavilion Parking Lot.
  • Trip to Riverside is 2 1/2 hours, arrive at 11:00 a.m.
  • Walking Tour led by Riverside Olmsted Society, 2 hours, 1 1/2 miles
  • Lunch Break 1:00 p.m.
  • Bus to other notable sights in Riverside.
  • Leave Riverside 2:00 p.m.

NOTES: Cost is $35 per person, payable in advance, to Lake Park Friends, by check or credit card (call office at 414-962-1680 or go online to LPF website).

Number of participants is limited to 20 due to size of bus.
There will be water and snacks on board with a rest break along the way – no bathroom on bus.
Bring a picnic lunch.
Return to Lake Park by 4:00 p.m.
